Exuma Construction and Development builds Affordable Cottage Style Homes in the Texas Gulf Coast area.

Exuma Construction and Development was formed in March 2005 by Steven and Mary Griffin as a builder of Affordable Homes in the Wharton County Area.


Named after the small island in the Bahamas where Steven and Mary fell in love, then returned a year later with 40 friends and family for a week long Beach Party Wedding at our dear friends KB and Kwanza Bowes' Chat n Chill bait/bar on the small Stocking Island @ Georgetown, Exuma.


As current economy stalls the housing market, the demand for new housing at affordable prices is increasing. With a substantial drop in New Housing Starts over the past several years, the demand for affordable housing continues to grow at rates not seen since post World War II levels. Low interest rates and first time home buyer programs allow for the purchase of homes at a time of "Record Low Interest Rates". However, a tightening of credit and mortgage underwriting guidlines increases the grip on home builders and the prospective home buyers.


In addition to homes in Wharton, Exuma has built homes in El Campo and Palacios. In expectation of this growth to continue in the Gulf Coast region of Texas, Exuma is seeking investment opportunities to capitalize on future growth in the region.

Several properties have been identified and are under consideration for future development, in Wharton, Bay City and El Campo.

The property currently owned by Exuma is under site and development plans for both single family, multi-family and commercial development.

In addition, Exuma has formed Leadership Housing LLC. Leadership Housing will be active in the development, construction and management of multi-family projects.

Our principal Steven Griffin has been a Florida Certified General Contractor (CGC007217) since 1973. One of the youngest persons to ever obtain this license which allows for the construction of any size building, anywhere in the State of Florida.


At 20 years of age, Steven founded Griffin Construction Company / Griffin Construction Group, Inc., in Miami, Florida. In addition to many home additions and remodeling projects, Griffin Construction also operated in the 1990's as a Florida Roof Contracting firm. Working on hundreds of South Florida Residential and Commercial Roofs.


In 1995 after completing the rebuilding of many homes and roofs in South Florida from the damage of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Steven chose to switch his career specialities from Structural and Roofing to Civil Engineering. Steven joined the City of Hollywood (Florida) as the only Engineering Inspector / Plan Reviewer responsible for all the paving and drainage projects in the City of Hollywood. A few years later the adjacent municipality, Town of Davie (Florida) would hire Steven to perform inspection and permit review for water, sewer, paving and drainage.


Within a few years the international engineering firm STV, Inc., would hire Steven as a Owner's Representative to provide oversight on the $350 million Orlando School District Immediate Needs Program consisting of the renovation of 145 school campuses in the Orlando Florida area. After a few years as the project was nearing completion STV needed Steven to fill the position of Office Engineer for the $325 million Houston Light Rail Project.


With over 30 years of construction industry experience, Steven's vast experience in addition to small projects includes The $15 million American Rice - Rough Rice Storage Facility in Freeport Texas, The $25 million New Passenger Terminal Building for Lake Charles Regional Airport.


Recent projects include working as a Construction Technical Advisor / Sr. Construction Manager to the USAF 577 Prime Beef Squadron in Afghanistan overseeing construction on 6 Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Eastern Afghanistan.


Steven applies his skills, knowledge and abilities learned over 30 years to every project (small or large) that he is involved with.


Steven enjoys sharing his knowledge and helping homeowners and small business owners with their construction needs.

Steven is presently away on assignment and not able to meet with homeowners and/or property owners.
